According to an addition to the FY 2018 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), Reserve component service member's eligibility for early TRICARE coverage will include delayed-effective-date active duty orders pursuant to section 12304b of title 10, U.S.C.

This means Reserve and Guard members involuntarily activated to support contingency operations with a 12304b designation on their orders will receive TRICARE benefits upon the 180 day mark prior to their activation or the active duty order date, whichever is later.

Members must pay close attention to the number designation, 12304b is not the same as 12301d.

Members should contact their Military Personnel Section or the Unit Deployment Manager if they have questions regarding their TRICARE eligibility.
